Palm Drum, Finger Drum,
Knee Drum & Udek

Palm Drum                         Knee Drum
                        Finger Drum                              Udek

The Palm Drum measures 8" x 16".  It has a closed bottom so that all of the sound comes out of the spout.   The spout measures about 3" across its opening, which is on the same plane with the drum head.  Playing technique involves sliding the palm of your hand over the opening of the portal to get glissando effects and fixed pitches.  This drum should be tuned very high so that the lower tones are audible when the opening of the sound portal is covered.  The drum has a sonority similar to a djembe.  It comes in a variety of glazed finishes.

The Knee Drum measures about 20" high with a 4" drum head. There is a sound portal about 3" from the top. The drum is set on the floor while the sound is emitted from the sound portal. This is for performers with multiple hand drum set ups. In effect the drum is its own stand.   The drum has a high pitched bongo type sound.  Its available in a glazed finish.

Standing about 10" high, The Finger Drum is a round jug shape with a flared neck or spout on top. The spout also has a 3" drum head glued to it with a sound portal on the side of the drum.  The drum can make fixed pitch and glissando sounds and is primarily played with the pointer, middle and ring fingers.  Its available in a glazed finish.

The Udek is a Dumbek with a closed bottom and a 2.5" hole on the side of the drum near the drumhead. Playing technique involves sliding the hand over the sound portal to get a glissando effect or to change pitch.  This drum tends to be somewhat higher in pitch and can be used as a solo voice.
