IThe Vertical Marimba
consists of a 20" wood resonator at the top which is also used as a drum, there is a long pole that is connected at the top of the resonator and goes all the way down to the floor stand or base. There are guiro etchings on one side of the pole. This to can be played like a drum with mallets. There is a large spring connecting the wood resonator to the base with a gut upright bass string that travels the length inside the spring. After the spring gets resonating the bass string is excited and makes its own sound. You can hit and scrape the spring with many different mallets. It's important to know that the spring acts as a resonator for all of the objects on the vertical marimba. The actual marimba part is the pole because when you hit the pole with mallets and go up and down it's length you can hear different notes. These notes have a duration because of the spring and the wood resonators. Music Discovery Lab I'm deeply inspired by this. I need to visit your studio one day!
